Summation in Maple

چکیده
Maple s sum command is a general purpose procedure to calculate di erent types of sums Algorithms for the computation of both inde nite and de nite sums are available Roberto Pirastu gave an excellent overview about rational summation and we take his article as a starting point for ours and thus will not focus on the rational case We will instead discuss three important methods for more general summation

Identities by Generalized L−summing Method
In this paper, we introduce 3-dimensional L−summing method, which is a rearrangement of the summation P Aabc with 1 ≤ a, b, c ≤ n. Applying this method on some special arrays, we obtain some identities on the Riemann zeta function and digamma function. Also, we give a Maple program for this method to obtain identities with input various arrays and out put identities concerning some elementary f...
متن کاملSummation by Parts Operators for Finite Difference Approximations of Second-Derivatives with Variable Coefficients
Finite difference operators approximating second derivatives with variable coefficients and satisfying a summation-by-parts rule have been derived for the second-, fourthand sixth-order case by using the symbolic mathematics software Maple. The operators are based on the same norms as the corresponding approximations of the first derivate, which makes the construction of stable approximations t...
متن کاملTelescoping in the context of symbolic summation in Maple
This paper is an exposition of different methods for computing closed forms of definite sums. The focus is on recently-developed results on computing closed forms of definite sums of hypergeometric terms. A design and an implementation of a software package which incorporates these methods into the computer algebra system Maple are described in detail. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
متن کاملSome fascinating series and their sums
In this paper we present some interesting results involving summation of series in particular trigonometric ones. We failed to locate these results in existing literature or in the web like MathWorld (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/) nor could we derive them using software for analytical computation like Maple. The identities are beautiful and involve finite series.
